Things to Know Before Booking Your Plastic Surgery Consultation
Plastic surgery is the process of reconstructing or repairing parts of the body utilized to treat an injury or cosmetic reasons. Whether you are considering plastic surgery for either of these reasons, know that you are at the beginning of an expansive and life-changing journey.
Before undergoing plastic surgery, almost all plastic surgery practices require patients to book a plastic surgery consultation. A consultation is necessary for a few different reasons that we will discuss later in this blog post. It is essential to know a few key things before booking your Plastic Surgery consultation, so today, we will dive into each of them in detail.
Keep scrolling for more insight into what to expect during your plastic surgery consultation, what you should know before booking, and a few key questions to ask your doctor.
Let’s get started!
t is essential to know a few key things before booking your Plastic Surgery consultation, so today, we will dive into each of them in detail.
RESEARCH THE INDUSTRY
Before booking your plastic surgery consultation, do your research!
Make sure you fully understand what the process of plastic surgery looks like including any and all risks associated with surgery, estimated costs, what downtime/recovery looks like, etc.
Research the types of plastic surgery that you are interested in. You must do your homework to be adequately informed when you are making such a life-changing decision. It will also allow the initial conversations with your plastic surgery to go smoother as you will already have a foundation of understanding.
You also don’t know what you don’t know, so having a foundation of knowledge will inform any questions you may have later. The goal is to make the most out of your consultation.
UNDERSTAND YOUR WHY
Aside from researching the industry and the plastic surgery options that you are interested in, you will also want to sit for a moment and reflect on your “why.” Why do you want plastic surgery? What is your motivation? This is a pivotal piece of your plastic surgery experience and will drive the decisions that you make!
Further, dig deeper and know your aesthetic goals (for example, enhanced breast size vs. breast lift) precisely. Your aesthetic goals and desired appearance will also drive the plan you and your plastic surgeon ultimately put together.
*Tip: Bring photos/visual examples of your aesthetic goals to walk through with your plastic surgeon
COME PREPARED WITH QUESTIONS
You will only have an allotted time slot to meet with your plastic surgeon, so make sure you prepare a list of questions to ask them to make sure you walk out of your consultation feel adequately and thoroughly prepared for surgery.
Here are a few questions to consider:
- What procedure(s) do you recommend for me?
- How often do you perform this procedure?
- Can I see before and after photos of your work?
- How is this procedure performed?
- What does recovery look like/what is the downtime?
- What are the risks, and what is your typical protocol for mitigating complications?
This is just a brief list of ideas! Always tailor the questions you have based on your desires, curiously, and personal experience.
SCREENING CALL VS. CONSULTATION
It is essential to understand that plastic surgery is a process! Most plastic surgery practices will take the time to do a screening call to ensure you receive the optimal care and attention, which means that you will likely speak to the office coordinator before coming in for your in-office consult. The office coordinator (also called cosmetic coordinator) will walk through the logistical side of plastic surgery. They will discuss the estimated cost of the procedure, the downtime, recovery, and details of what procedure may be best for you.
During your in-person consultation, your plastic surgeon (at WellSpring will be both Dr. Langevin and Dr. Cone) will take the time to understand you, your motivations, and any hesitations you may be experiencing. Further, your doctors will take the time to listen to you and learn about your aesthetic goals to achieve your desired surgical outcome.
By the end of the consultation, all of your questions should be answered, and you should thoroughly understand all of your options!
Up next is your plastic surgery. 🙂
*Extra tip: wear loose clothing like a dress to make it easier to disrobe if you are considering any type of breast augmentation
