Frequently Asked Questions About a Mommy Makeover
In the media these days the term “Mommy Makeover” gets thrown around a lot. However, a lot of people don’t truly understand what it is. That’s not unusual because every Mommy Makeover is unique- just like the woman who wants it. Here are some frequently asked questions to help demystify the term.
Every Mommy Makeover is unique, just like the woman wants it.
Do I have to be a mother to get a Mommy Makeover?
The term “Mommy Makeover” can be misleading. You don’t have to be a mother to get a Mommy Makeover. Women’s bodies change due to a wide variety of reasons: weight loss or gain, age, illness and, yes, having children. A Mommy Makeover is a multi-procedure surgery that allows a woman to reshape her body so she can feel more comfortable and beautiful in her own skin.
What procedures can be included in a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover can be a combination of any of the following procedures:
Is it safe?
Absolutely! At Wellspring Plastic Surgery, Dr. Cone and Dr. Langevin put the utmost emphasis on safety. Our surgeons have frequently performed the combination of abdominal contouring and breast enhancement and take every precaution to ensure the patient is safe, healthy and ecstatic with their results.
What does recovery look like?
One of the benefits of getting the procedures done at once is that instead of recovering from each procedure separately, you only have one recovery period. Assuming you received a tummy tuck in addition to a breast procedure, you are going to need to be prepared to take some time off- not only from work, but also from “momming.” You won’t be able to physically pick up the kids for a couple of weeks after the surgery. The first week after your procedures it is important to be very careful. You will need help around the house and with your own personal daily requirements for the first 7 days. Depending on your job- most people can return to work within 2-3 weeks and resume more vigorous activities in 4-6 weeks.
What kind of changes can I expect in my body after a mommy makeover?
The answer to this depends heavily on what you decide to have done. For your breasts, after pregnancy they can have less volume or excess skin. The breast enhancement surgery can remove the excess skin, remove the ‘droopy’ look, and restore their fuller, more youthful state. The tummy can have excess skin or abdominal laxity/bulge. Your rectus muscles (responsible for the ‘6-pack’) can separate from each other. A tummy tuck removes the excess skin and realigns the rectus muscles. What that means for you is a trimmer waist, a flatter tummy, and an improved contour of your waistline. Liposuction helps to contour your body. Sometimes the shape of the hips and thighs can change and new fatty deposits can be annoyingly resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can reduce the size of those deposits and enhance your shapely figure.
Will I have a scar?
You will have scarring (dependent on the procedures you undergo) but our surgeons specialize in making them as unobtrusive as possible. It is also vitally important that you take proper care of the scars post-operatively. This care includes the proper scar therapy (which we will provide) and keeping the scars protected from the sun using adequate sun protection for the first year. Scar patterns are different for each procedure of a mommy makeover. We will be happy to discuss these in greater depth in your consultation with our surgeons.
