We here at the Wellspring Plastic Sugery office have been fielding quite a few questions about Mommy Makeovers lately.  Allow us to provide some answers to the most commonly asked questions concerning a Mommy Makeover for you.

What is a Mommy Makeover? There is a lot of confusion as to what, exactly a mommy makeover entails.  The reason it is difficult to nail down one, specific definition is because it depends on who is receiving it.  A Mommy Makeover is a custom tailored treatment plan that varies based on your particular wants and needs.  However, the two consistent components in Mommy Makeovers are the breasts and the body.  There are choices to be made, however, determining what you would like done to these components.

Breast cancer healthcare and medical concept

Breast Augmentation

I’m done having kids, can I get a boob job now? You may have always wanted larger, fuller breasts, but may have held off in order to have children, knowing how pregnancy and breast feeding can affect your breasts.  Well, now is the time!! If you are looking for fuller breasts, you can opt for a breast augmentation (Augmentation Mammaplasty). One of our doctors will discuss size, placement, shape, incision site, and implant type with you, ensuring you get the results you have been dreaming about.

Breast Lift

I’m good with my breast size, but they seem to have migrated south.  Often, pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave your breasts with some excess skin, leaving the breasts to have that droopy look and not be positioned where they once were.  If you have this issue, you would benefit from a Breast Lift (Mastopexy).  A lift improves the shape and firmness of the existing breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to help reshape and support the new contour.

Breast Augmentation with a Lift

Since having my kids, my breasts are saggy and empty. What should I do? If you feel like having children has drained more than your energy, you can get a combination of a breast lift and augmentation.  Excess skin is removed, breasts are repositioned, and implants bring back your fullness.

Liposuction & Body Contouring

I work my butt off, and watch what I eat, but I still can’t get my old shape back! Help!! Women can carry weight on their bodies that can be pretty stubborn and resistant to exercise and nutrition.  It often plagues your abdomen, flanks, or thighs, obstructing the shape of the body.  That’s when Liposuction (Lipoplasty) can come in handy.  A few small incisions and you can permanently remove that stubborn fat (permanently when maintaining a healthy lifestyle – uncontrolled weight gain after surgery may overcome the benefits of liposuction).

Tummy Tuck

After my pregnancies, my stomach bulges and has loose skin.  Will I ever be comfortable enough to wear a swimsuit again?! The answer to that question is most definitely yes! Pregnancy can cause the tummy area to have loose, sagging skin.  Also, during pregnancy the “six-pack” muscles (rectus) can separate from each other (called diastasis), leaving the common bulge.  A Tummy tuck will help with both of these issues, and there is even evidence of a tummy tuck improving lower back pain and decreasing incontinence after pregnancy (Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons). It will pull in the contour of your waist.  Imagine having a built-in corset, without having to hold your breath!  The Tummy Tuck will also remove excess skin, realign your rectus muscles, and flatten your stomach.  Lookout beach- here you come!!

Other FAQ’s

How long will it take to recover? Because I have kids and a really busy life.  In the first few days after surgery, you are going to need to take it really easy.  It would be a good idea to arrange for some help around the house.  Usually you can return to work within 2 weeks, but hold off on the really vigorous activities for around 4 to 6 weeks.

How much will this cost me? As stated before, a Mommy Makeover is a very personalized plan for your particular body.  Without knowing what it is you need or want done, it’s practically impossible to determine the cost.  However, come on in for a free cosmetic consultation with Dr. Cone or Dr. Langevin so we can get an idea of what you want done. Then we would be happy to put together a quote for you!

Why should I do the procedures together instead of one at a time? Two reasons: Money and Recovery.  By doing the procedures from a Mommy Makeover at the same time, you save quite a bit of money. You’ll only need to pay for anesthesia and a surgery center once, instead of multiple times.  The other reason is a combined recovery time.  Instead of recovering from each procedure separately, you can get it done all at once!  You’ll be back to your life, feeling and looking fabulous, in no time!

I’m not actually a mom, can I still get a Mommy Makeover? Of course!! The procedure is nicknamed a Mommy Makeover because of the number of mom’s that opt for it.  However, many women have these issues without having children and can be helped by a Mommy Makeover.  Children are definitely not a requirement!

I have a vague idea of what I want done, but I don’t know what exact “procedures” will give me those results.  What should I do?  That’s a simple answer: Come talk to Dr. Langevin or Dr. Cone at Wellspring Plastic Surgery.  We would love to set you up with a free cosmetic consultation in our Austin office to discuss your goals for a Mommy Makeover and how best to reach them.  There’s no obligation, and we would love to answer any more of your questions.  We look forward to talking to you!
