At what age does a woman feel best about her body? In her twenties—perhaps before she’s had kids, and things are still toned and taut? Or later on once her many life experiences have made her more confident and self-assured in her own skin?

The answer is surprising.

A recent survey of nearly 1,500 women conducted by a major fashion retailer in the U.K. discovered that women over 65 years of age are less concerned with obtaining the perfect body, and more comfortable with what they have.

Fifty-one percent of those women over 65 went on to say that they had more important things in life to focus on than the perfect ‘bikini body.’

Additional highlights from the survey include:

  • Fifty-six percent of 18 to 24-year olds admit to buying cover-ups to wear over their swimsuit to hide problem areas.
  • Seventy-two percent of 18 to 34-year olds would never want to take a selfie in swimwear.
  • Fifty-five years old is the age when more than half of the women surveyed said they stopped worrying about their body image to focus on other things.

One reason women are feeling more confident in their bodies later on is that so many are adopting a healthier lifestyle. Eating right and exercising regularly goes a long way in the looks department.
